Iden Plantation is a large, luxurious and meticulously restored 1840's farmhouse. It has 5 large bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths. It can comfortably sleep 10 people and well-behaved dogs are welcome.
Iden is more than a farm house. With its preserved barns, one-room schoolhouse and other agricultural buildings, it's an authentic glimpse into America's antebellum rural past.
Step back into the elegance of the mid-19th Century at Iden Plantation, nestled on 28 private acres with easy 1/2 hour access to Richmond, Colonial Williamsburg and the Historic Triangle, as well as Bush Gardens and Water Country USA. The New Kent Winery and the Club at Viniterra, featuring an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Reese Jones, are 1/4 mile away. Three other local wineries, including Upper Shirley, Saude Creek and Gautier are minutes away as are the magnificent Historic James River Plantation Estates. Memorable Horseback riding excursions can be conveniently arranged by your host. If you visit in the fall or winter you may share a stirrup cup with the scarlet-coated Princess Ann Fox Hunting Club as they canter across the scenic countryside with an entourage of horses and fox hounds.
Iden has been nominated to the National Register of Historic Places and has been completely renovated for the discriminating guest. With nearly 4000 square feet of living space, there are five large, elegant and comfortable bedrooms, three of which have adjoining/attached baths. There is an additional 1/2 bath off the laundry room. There is a well-appointed beamed gourmet country kitchen with Bosch appliances and gas stove, as well as a laundry room with state of the art washer/dryer, iron and ironing board. There is a large comfortable dining room, a paneled library and parlour with wide-screen DISH TV, a covered porch with wicker furniture and gas BBQ, as well as a sundeck with a classic pergola. Iden is stunningly furnished with period and reproduction furniture and antiques. Every room of the house has an original decorative fireplace. The house is fully air conditioned. Iden is surrounded by open meadows, woodlands and vineyards and boasts pleasant views and many spectacular ancient trees. There are several picturesque outbuildings to explore, including a large classic red barn, log corn crib, carriage house, slave dwelling and one-room school house. Resident goats, chickens and peafowl add charm to the landscape. Deer, red foxes, and wild turkeys are frequent visitors. History buffs will be delighted to know that dashing Confederate General JEB Stuart and his cavalry encamped very near the house in June 1862 and his officers paid a visit to the plantation. Relax on the covered porch, explore nearby St. Peter's Church where George and Martha Washington were married. Take a 28 minute drive to downtown Richmond or tour the surrounding wineries and historic sites of Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown. Iden is quiet and peaceful but also convenient to popular tourist destinations. It's the perfect getaway for a large family or group who enjoy nature and an historical setting. It's a popular site for bridal parties to stay preparing for the big day at a nearby venue.

Our family enjoyed a weekend together at this beautiful home. There was plenty of space for our family of 6 adults, two children, and a dog to stay comfortably. The house was well setup and comfortable. We all enjoyed walking around the grounds and playing fetch with the dog in the open field. We took a day trip to nearby Colonial Williamsburg and spent relaxing time staying in preparing and eating meals. The kids enjoyed playing monopoly. Thank you for sharing the house with us. We had a great time!

Our experience at Iden was wonderful. The plantation house was beautiful, and the kids loved exploring outside. Easy check in and check out process. House was very well equipped with everything we need. Kent was an excellent host and we will stay again.

Iden plantation was an ideal place to share time with our family. The house was more spacious than the pictures suggested. We had plenty of space to spend time together and time apart. The kitchen and grill were great too. Also, it was so wonderful to be able to bring our dogs to celebrate Christmas with us. The host was helpful and check in and out went smoothly. I would recommend the house to others.

This farm house was historic, beautiful and clean. It was perfect for our group/family get together. With a fully stocked kitchen and spacious home we can't wait to rent from Kent again. He was an attentive and gracious host.

Iden Plantation is simply a terrific property. We booked it for a family birthday gathering and it exceeded all of our expectations. It is a beautiful historic home that has been lovingly modernized by its owners. However, the modern touches do not detract from its historic feel. When you add the beautiful and secluded setting, you have the ingredients for a special place-and it is. The dog friendly status of Iden allowed us to bring our retrievers and they loved running and exploring the property without the restriction of leashes. Kent met us for a check in tour and was very helpful. He also tipped me off to the nightly star show and I enjoyed the show. If you want a magical historic farm to escape the real world, this is it. We will definitely return.

To start with, the booking experience I had was effortless. Kent was so quick and thorough with his communication. The home is located in a beautiful, country side setting but still close enough to Williamsburg to make convenient day trips to see the sights. The home easily accommodated our 8 guests. 5 stars all around for this vacation rental.
Great location! Great host!

Iden Plantation worked great for our trip! Easy driving distance from the airport, Jamestown and Busch Gardens. The house was perfect for us - four adults and two kids. Kitchen was updated as well as all of the bathrooms. Kent was accessible and helpful! Would definitely stay again if in the area!
Stunning location and home!

We were fortunate to spend a week at Iden Plantation with the extended family. The location was perfect-close to everything-and the beautifully restored home was amazing. Each room is exquisitely furnished, comfortable and had all the modern conveniences to accommodate our needs. Given the chance to visit the area again. I'd book Iden in a heartbeat! Thanks to Kent & Denise for making us feel welcome.
Fantastic location and wonderful property

Great central location to Williamsburg and Richmond for visiting all the local historical attractions. Nice spacious pet friendly house, great for families. Very private with fantastic porches for relaxing and watching the wildlife visit in the afternoon. Gracious host that makes sure everything is perfect for your stay.

Very peaceful. Loved Kevin the peacock’s greetings ever day! I would stay again here in a heartbeat. In the 10 years I have used this service, the only place that came close to Iden was a converted 16th century barn near Florence Italy!

Wonderful place!! Perfect for family gatherings. Plenty of indoor and outdoor space for everyone to enjoy themselves. Since we have children and grandchildren in Richmond we'll be staying here again. We are already looking forward to it.

The farmhouse was the perfect place to stay while visiting New Kent County for a family wedding. Just like the photos show, it was a beautiful property that was very charming and clean. We especially loved the large kitchen, both outside decks and the unexpected game of corn hole! Thanks to Kent, the owner, for opening your home to us!

This is an ever so interesting house and property. Every member of our 7 person party loved it. We loved the antiquity and the comfort. Kent, the owner, has struck an excellent balance preserving the historic quality of the home while providing clean, comfortable, up-to-date and functional bathroom and kitchen facilities. The beds were all very comfortable. It was a special treat to be given a tour and history of the property by the owner. This beautiful property feels remote and yet is very accessible to Richmond and Williamsburg. Perfection!

We really enjoyed our stay at the lovely IDEN Plantation house. We had ample room for six adults, 2 tots and 2 infants. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook Christmas dinner. The house was comfortable, inviting, and childproof which amazed us given all the wonderful antiques. We also enjoyed walking around the beautiful grounds. We truly experienced a country Christmas ( the owner even decorated the house) and would love to come back! Denise and Nick
This is an amazing property with such attention to period detail and your every comfort. We traveled with our friends from Germany and split our time touring Richmond and Williamsburg as well as enjoying a day at Busch Gardens Christmas town. The estate is nicely located between the two cities and is very easy to access from route 64. Situated on vast acreage of rolling hills you are transported back to an earlier era. Kent is very accommodating and stayed in close touch with us via text so that we would be greeted and provided with a quick history and tour of the property. Every room and fireplace mantel were decorated with garlands and lights and even a sparkling full size tree. Despite traveling over the coldest few days of the season the house is dual zoned heated, warm and cozy. The updated kitchen and bathrooms are beautiful and incorporate modern conveniences without losing the history and beauty of the house. We thoroughly enjoyed cooking in and dining in our own private colonial dining room for our party of 8. We will definitely come again someday and look forward to warmer weather where we would be able to stroll and enjoy the many outbuildings and patios. I hope Kent continues to be such an attentive custodian to such a gem of a bygone era. Happy New Year.
Farm House is wonderful! lots of space and room for larger groups/kids/dogs to move around. The kitchen is nice, gas range & oven made for easy cooking. The owner is incredible, responsive, and helpful. It is nice to find a place that takes animals and children. Quiet and away from the city. Perfect location if you want to escape from the city. Porch with grill was a nice touch. Enjoyed walking around the farm, seeing animals too. Would definitely stay here again, if we ever came back!
We loved staying in this beautiful historic home. It was a perfect location for us to visit Richmond and Williamsburg, not to mention the wineries in the area. Relaxing on the porch, looking out through trees at the beautiful country landscape was wonderful. The bathrooms are completely new and beautiful. We would definitely like to stay there again.
Thank you, Kent for a wonderful stay at your farmhouse.
For our family of 4 - including 2 kids and a poodle pup - it was perfect. The kids and the pup loved running around the yard, visiting the chickens and going to the barn to visit the goat. The house was very comfortable, lovely farmhouse style and decorated as you see on-line. The house was easy to get to and a good mid-point between Richmond and Williamsburg. The owner is very nice and went out of his way to be helpful and welcoming. Thank you Kent!
Beautiful, spacious property & great location!
This property has it all...gorgeous landscape, history, plenty of space inside and out with wonderful amenities. Easy drive to Williamsburg, Jamestown, Richmond, beach, etc... We loved it!
Peaceful stay in historic home
If you want to relax in a beautifully restored farmhouse (on 28 acres) next to a winery, near horseback riding and near the lovely James River Plantations, this is the place! Roosters will welcome you with a cockle doodle do and you can check out from afar the two peacocks. Follow the long romantic road to the farmhouse, a beautiful red barn and a one room schoolhouse. The owner, Kent, has immaculately and lovingly restored and decorated this 1840 home. It has a large, fully equipped kitchen, a porch with a portico, another large porch with a swing and wicker chairs, and a grill. No clutter here! Very clean! Very quiet and cozy! We stayed with four other couples (our son's wedding was nearby) and we all enjoyed our stay.
